What makes Speranza Different?
Speranza is especially concerned with three things: choral music, diversity, and democratic processes.

Choral Music

For us, choral music is rooted in the music of the European Renaissance, including:

-
groups of singers blending their voices to sing their vocal part (tenor, alto, etc.)
-
the independence, equality, and expressivity of the vocal parts
-
the incorporation of homophonic and polyphonic textures

We are most interested in the ability of choral music to bring people together in a creative activity. Selections of music are chosen because of their beauty and power; all other concerns are secondary.

Diversity

We find similar qualities of beauty and expressiveness in choral music
from diverse musical traditions. Singing music of varied choral traditions helps us understand cultures and people.

Democratic Processes

Our intention is for the singers to be fully engaged in the organization. We want our processes to be transparent and open, and for the organization to belong to the singers. When our organizational bylaws go into effect in 2026, our democratically elected board will provide guidance and direction for Speranza.
